How to start writing an article

The hardest thing you ever do is to 'start'. When you want to travel, the hardest part is just 'go ahead and go'. But once you start, everything follows. The same is true with writing. Do not know about you, but when I write, the first sentence in this article is canceled five times before one becomes permanent. But once you get through the first sentence by writing the entire article will be a breeze.

In fact there are lots of ways you could start your article. You could start with a quote, a question, an anecdote, or you could go straight to the point. There is no exact formula for the start. You can start your article with every sentence, provided that suits your purpose.

What is the purpose of this article?

So think about why you are writing this article. What is your purpose? And 'to entertain, to inspire, convince, or simply to inform? If you want to have fun, then a funny story might do well. If you want to inspire, then a famous quote can do. If you want to convince, then maybe you could start with a question. If you want to inform, then you could go straight to the point.

Let me give a concrete example. Let's say your goal is to get people to buy your product. I said if you want to persuade, to begin the article with a question may do the trick. Let's say that your product is a water bed. Maybe you could start your essay with a question like: "Have you ever had a night where you could not sleep because of your mattress lumpy?" or "When was the last time you had a good night's sleep?" This is a good strategy because you are automatically creating a bond with the reader. If your reader can answer "yes" to his question, he will be able to relate, and if it is able to relate, then it will be affected.

The first line

But ask a question is not the only way to start an article. If you can make it work, then a story would be perfect for your article. Perhaps you could tell the story of a friend who does not want to buy the bed at first, but he was persuaded to do so after a bit 'of incitement. And then give them a joke. It should be fun, or at least, unexpected. Maybe we could end the story by saying that your friend has gone to your office, fuming. He kept staring at you so you asked what was wrong. And then he answered: "I got in trouble at work because of your bed." And so you ask him why and he replies that he woke up late because the bed was so comfortable. You will expose how the bed is comfortable and entertained your readers, at the same time.

Again, there is no exact formula to start writing an article, just let your imagination run wild .......
