Photo Of The Day: 19/06/2011 "saved by a seal"

That year, the winter promised to be memorable. A week with classmates in Greenland. We would be in a cabin and we would know about the most fascinating animal species in the area. Even with a little luck, we would see polar bears!. The plane was flying over a vast plain white. A beautiful blanket of snow and ice, when suddenly the engine started to sound strange. The monotonous drone, became an intermittent rattle. Then silence and a strange rattle, which moved the unit from side to side. The captain spoke over the loudspeaker said that we keep calm, well we abrocháramos seatbelts us to support the head and arms. We had to make an emergency landing. Probably not spent more than two or three minutes, but became endless. Around me, I heard cries of panic and tears. I was so scared, she could not even scream. My knees were trembling and jaw. My heart was beating very fast. Then a tremendous impact shook the whole set. I tried to hold my head as indicated by the pilot, but the last I remember, is a brutal shock, which made my whole body bounced against the seat.

That fleeting moment, my mind again and again, like in slow motion. It is difficult to estimate how long it was until I came to. I opened my eyes, very confused. I remember the first thing I noticed was a bitter cold in the legs. He was still sitting in my chair with a seat belt. The extraordinary thing was to meet alone in the middle of the snow. The seat had been uprooted, along with a piece of fuselage and the window was on my left side. I looked around for my teammates, the rest of the plane, the crew ... Nothing. Only intense and blinding white mantle. Numb, I got up and found that apart from some bruises, was safe. I started walking disoriented. I was afraid of the piece of metal away from the plane. While on the other hand, maybe the rest were just a few hundred meters. I decided to continue. After a while, I sat in the snow and could not help break to mourn. Where were the others, what would have happened, I was afraid. I covered my eyes with my hands, and sobbed inconsolably. Then, I noticed a strong smell of fish and a tingling in my cheeks.

I raised my hands and there she was. A large seal, I sniffed curiously. I looked at askance because he was not sure of his intentions, but soon realized I was in no danger. She was beautiful and made me feel good, accompanied and protected. A cold wind began to blow so hard that the snow up in violent waves. Boasting an incredible protective instincts, the animal between its wings around me, protecting my head under his neck and using his huge body as a shield against the blizzard. He remained in the same position, until the storm subsided. It smelled really bad, but it was so warm in there, that he wished that the storm lasted a few hours. With gigantic blunder, he left me and disappeared behind a small mound and after a few minutes returned with a huge fish in his mouth. He bit a piece and left the rest at my feet, inviting me to do the same. I hated raw fish. I opened between nausea with my hands, I pulled the guts and tried to eat a few pieces. I knew my body needed food. Pieces mixed with handfuls of snow to soften the taste. The seal was watching me with a gesture of surprise.

Time passed. Who knows how, in the midst of eternal whiteness. An engine noise was heard in the distance. He was a rescue helicopter. I guess the pilots had to communicate our position before the fall. When they got the rescue, I was asked if he was okay. Pointing Thanks to her I said I'm alive. It has given me heat, food, and has protected me till you come .- Wow, they've been lucky to find it, entonces.Antes board the device, my savior hugged, kissed his foul mouth and said goodbye. Elevábamos As we could not stop staring at her, like a speck in the vastness. She lifted her head, her eyes following us into infinity. You can find more articles of this series
