Structured Wiring Benefits

In the early eighties, the person in charge of the data network within the organization had to send information to the end user terminals or data communications. This person installing proprietary systems such as coaxial cable RG 62 for IBM systems.

The companies began creating their own standards for wiring installations, and so appeared the cabling system owner. Subsequently, the association of the Telecommunications Industry (TIA) established what is now known as the standard 568 for commercial building wiring, directly related to the concept of structured cabling system.

A structured cabling system is defined as opposed to structured cabling problems, nonstandard or closed, or owner of a particular manufacturer.

An "open wiring system" on the other hand, is a structured cabling system is designed to be vendor-independent and application at once.

The key features of an open wiring system is that all the outlets (outlets for connection) of the workspace are identical star connected to a central distribution point, using a combination of medium and hardware that can accept any application need can occur throughout the life of the cabling, which is estimated at about ten years.

These features open wiring system offers three main advantages to the owner or user:

a) Because the cabling system is application independent and vendor, changes in the network and the equipment can be made by the same existing cables.

b) Because the outlets are wired the same way, staff turnover can be done without changing the wiring base.

c) The location of hubs and network hub in a central distribution point, usually a telecommunications closet, permits or wiring problems are detected and isolated network easily without having to stop the rest of the network.

It is important to identify, first, the position that keeps the wiring inside the computer network, is divided into three basic components:

1. DCE (data communication equipment).

2. System wiring or cable plant.

3. DTE (data terminal equipment).

The basic components of the cabling system is the physical media liaison, carry information from the DCE to the DTE and can be copper or fiber. Although the basic concept of a structured cabling system is the same, there are cynical different systems:

1. Level3 UTP.

2. UTP level 4.

3. Level 5 UTP.

4. STP / FTP.

5. Optical fiber.

For all these advantages of structured cabling, it is important to properly combine software and hardware resources.
